Dr Andre Schuiteman inspects some new orchids in the collection, providing a unique opportunity to update the checklists

The Collection green house was build during 2015/2016 at the Forestry Administration on Hanoi Street. Dr Keo Omalisse, the Director of the Department of Wildlife and Biodiversity headed the activity, by building the greenhouse and developing the collection. This work was technically supported by Dr. Schuiteman from Kew Botanical Gardens and by the OrchidCambodia project that helped to identify a key person to set up the Collection. Sok Vichea, a passionate orchid lover and green-thumb gardener worked under the Department, as a student of the University of Agriculture. He helped to put in place the collection displays and maintenance systems. In 2016, the Green House benefited from the kind contribution of Cedric Jancloes with over 1000 plants donated. Further to this, the collection was also furnished with the newly implemented activities of the Forestry Administration, allowing to crack down on illegal traders. The confiscated plants now have a safe haven.

Dr Keo Omalisse

He heads a wide range of activities, spanning from the control of illegal trade to the preservation and documentation of wild species. The National orchid Collection is made under his guidance.
He shares a personal passion for orchids and has personally engaged his time and resources in the collection

Mrs Nay Sikhoeun

Nay Sikhoeun personally ensures that all the specimens in the collection are well maintained and taken care of. She works with one lead assistant and together, they provide around the clock maintenance and  supervision of the collection

He has worked with the Forestry Administration for many years and has provided guidance in the launching and establishment of the collection. With his help, the collection specimens have been determined, providing in the process many new findings for Cambodia.
